I have been lucky enough to visit Split a couple of times. This charming ancient city is compact and chock full of bars, restaurants, and historical sites to visit. Much of the old town area is built within the walls of Diocletian’s Palace. A statue of Gregory of Nin can be found by the northern gate to the palace – rub his toe for good luck!
If you’re looking for a view over the city, take a walk up the hill in Marjan Park. A word of warning though, if you are visiting in the summer months, ensure that you make this hike as early as possible in the morning and take water! There are free water fountains en-route for you to top up.
Zadar is the oldest continuously inhabited Croatian city and is situated on the Adriatic coast. Explore the ancient ruins and many churches built over the centuries, including the Church of St Donat and the Cathedral of St Anastasia (both pictured right).
Take a break from walking by sitting on the Sea Organ, a truly unique attraction which plays gentle music as the waves lap against it.
One of the most beautiful places in the world, Plitvice Lakes National Park is home to a series of lakes, streams, waterfalls, and caves. Photographs do not do the place justice. Book in advance to attend this popular attraction!
